Cardea and Fenland Police fought out a 2 all draw despite the home team playing with 10 men for the last 30 minutes following an Adam Simons red card.

Werrington Sports Centre hosted Cardea's final home game of the 2013/14 season, becoming the forth different venue Cardea have called home this season. With work under way at the new Cardea pitch the club are hopeful to have a permanent home ground for next season.

Cardea started with Tom Broughton up front with George Greetham just behind him. Aaron Yeoman and Daryl Patrick were in centre midfield with Adam Simons and Kynan Bereznyckyj on the wings.

Mike Williams and Tom Rimes started as centre backs with twin backs Ryan and Dale Moore playing in the full back positions, Anton Fountain played in goal.

Cardea almost made a perfect start as Broughton was played in behind the Fenland defence but the keeper was out well to save at his feet.

Half way through the second half and Cardea took the lead. A big kick from Fountain beat the Fenland centre backs and Broughton made no mistake this time and slotted the ball home.

The lead didn't last long, however, as Cardea gave a free kick away on the right side of the pitch. Ryan Alban curled the kick towards the back post and the ball beat everyone and went into the top corner.

Cardea were still recovering from that equaliser when they went behind, although there was a lot of controversy about the build up.

The ball was played forward by Fenland to an offside player, however Williams got a flick on the ball and the referee deemed this to signal a second phase of play and the Fenland striker struck the ball past Fountain and into the net.

At half time George Greetham was replaced by Daniel Robinson. Moments into the second half and Cardea were almost level. A free kick was whipped in and Patrick headed the ball straight at the goalkeeper.

The Cardea captain did get his goal 10 minutes later. Following good work from the Cardea defence Yeoman played the ball through to Patrick. He controlled and lobbed the ball over the keeper and into the net, with just enough pace on the ball to beat the back tracking defender.

Fenland Police reacted well to being pegged back and almost went back into the lead straight away. The Fenland striker ran onto a through ball but under pressure from Yeoman his shot was well smothered by Fountain.

The game changed mid way through the second half as Fenland broke from a Cardea corner and Adam Simons brought down the striker as the last man and was sent off, the resulting free kick was well blocked by the Cardea backline.

Despite the one man disadvantage Cardea were still creating plenty of chances. Daniel Robinson had a couple of opportunities to get on the score sheet but the goalkeeper and a lucky block from a defender denied him.

The Fenland goalkeeper almost gifted Cardea the win late on as he miss kicked his clearance and Broughton had a chance to score but his touch was heavy and went straight back to the keeper.

The referee brought an end to the match and the result means Cardea will have to rely on other results to win the title. However there is still a lot of football to be played and the title could still realistically go to Cardea, Fenland or Yaxley.

The result also means Cardea finish the season unbeaten at home (wherever that home may be!).

After the game Kev Webster said: "The attitude from all the lads was spot on today, I couldn't ask for a better reaction.

"It's not over yet still a big win needed and show that attitude in the next game and come away the 3 points all we then have to is sit back and watch the league unfold and hope the other teams slip up! One final push needed but you all should be proud."

Craig Robinson said: "I can't fault any player today, everyone showed passion and we were the better team from the first whistle. First half we pressed them well and were unlucky to go in 2-1 down at HT.

"After a few words and instructions for the wingers and fullbacks we started the second half exactly to plan and deserved to get level. Did enough to win it with 2 or 3 good chances.

"Can't blame Adam for red card but credit to the lads when we went down to 10 as they continued to dominate. Let's win the last game and see what happens!

"My man of the match was Tom Rimes. Faultless throughout the whole game."

Cardea's next game is their final game of the season against Halcyon on the 27th April at Bretton.
