Goals from Tom Broughton, Tom Rimes and Tom Greetham secured a hat trick of wins for Cardea FC as they continued their winning start to the season.

Lawson Avenue in Stanground was the location for Cardea's second home game of the season versus Werrington Dragons and it didn't take long for the heavens to open and the rain to soak the various supporters and WAGs.

Knee ligament-less Craig Robinson came into the team to take the gloves this week and Michael Williams also returned to the team following a holiday. George Greetham returned to the squad following a club imposed ban!

Cardea were in control from the start but early chances were hard to come by. For the second week on the trot Tony Harper brought the ball out of defence and produced a long range shot that was equally as bad as last weeks effort. Unfortunately this week he didn't injure his toe and could continue.

On ten minutes Tom Rimes produced one of his trademark wing runs from right back and crossed the ball to Daryl Patrick. Patrick shot from 15 yards but the effort was well saved by Dragon's keeper, and former Cardea player, Dave Hardingham. The following corner found the head of Rimes and his header was blocked on the line by what looked like a hand but the referee only gave another corner.

Fifteen minutes in and Adam Simons had a long range effort which was tipped over by Hardingham. The Dragon's keeper was busy again soon after when Daniel Robinson found himself in space and his shot was blocked Hardingham.

Cardea took the lead just before the half hour mark when good feet by Patrick inside the Werrington area led to him threading the ball through the defenders legs for Tom Broughton to slot past the keeper and grab his third goal in three games.

It was two soon after when a good cross by Daniel Robinson was powered into the net at the back post by the head of Tom Rimes. As the goal went in the rain got harder and the spectators were sent rushing for the umbrellas. At one point there were all the subs and the linesman under one umbrella!

Half time arrived and Cardea had two goals to show for their dominant first half performance. Manager Kev Webster decided to take the wingers off for the second half and go for a 4-3-3 formation with Tom Greetham and Phil Brown coming on.

The second half continued in the same rhythm as the first with Cardea on top. Ryan Moore's header from a corner hit the cross bar. It looked to have taken a deflection off the defender but the ref gave a goal kick.

Cardea scored a third just after the hour mark when Mike Dandrilli, who was now playing on the right side of the attacking three, crossed the ball into Tom Greetham and the substitute header the ball past the keeper.

Dandrilli was now full of confidence after his assist and showed good skill on the edge of the area to work a shooting position but his shot was straight at the keeper.

More chances were created by Cardea with Tom Greetham missing a header and then his shot hit the feet of Daryl Patrick on the way to goal. A defensive error led to a chance for George Greetham but his snap shot went over the bar.

Dandrilli had one more good effort before he was substituted, he surged into open space on the edge of the area and his shot was heading into the corner of the goal but a flying palm from Hardingham managed to tip the ball around the post.

Into the last ten minutes and Cardea were still on the attack and chances from Patrick and George Greetham were both put over the bar. The referee called the match to a close and the final score was 3-0 to Cardea.

Three wins out of three for Cardea means they sit top of the table by three points. This performance was more like the displays that were produced in pre season and the team was much more composed throughout the game.

After the game manager Kev Webster (who was in a celebratory mood after escaping jail this week) said: "A welcome return to Mikes (Williams) who helped add that composure back to the defence we are used to. A good vocal display from Robbo back in goal who kept Cardea's first clean sheet of the season, something no doubt he won't let us forget."

"I saw signs of the pre season form returning so keep that up in the next two games as it's those games which will shape our season. Good solid display, well done!"

The man of the match was awarded to Tom Rimes for a performance which saw him up and down the right side of the pitch, affecting the game both defensively and offensively.

Next up for Cardea is their first big challenge of the season when they face unbeaten Fenland Police in a top of the table clash at The Manor, Whittlesey.
