Luke Penman promised to donate £10 per goal to the Moore's Great Eastern run next week and the striker opened the scoring in a 2-0 win.

Cardea FC (4-3-2-1): Gavin Sampson; Anthony Kiernan, Dale Moore, Michael Williams, Travis Brown; Shane Cooke, Gav Earl (c), Aaron Yeoman; Alex Goymour, Antonio Migneco; Luke Penman.

The game was a bit of a slow burner to begin, with both sides having good chances. Yeoman and Earl both had shots outside the area that went just wide, while at the other end Parkside came close when they shot inches wide.

The deadlock was broken half an hour in and it came from the Cardea right. Kiernan went on a good run into the Parkside half and played a superb ball through to Penman who blasted his finish past the keeper, and found himself £10 lighter.

The Cardea defenders were dealing well with everything Parkside threw at them and got in at half time with a clean sheet.

That clean sheet came under threat at the start of the second half. When a Parkside corner fell to an attacker in the box, 6 yards out with only the keeper to beat Sampson pulled of a great save to divert the ball over the bar. The Parkside player should have scored but it goes down as a good save to the Cardea keeper.

Rob Ames and Kieran Hart were introduced early in the second half to try to add the goals that would secure the win.

Cooke and Ames both had half chances that came to nothing and then the Parkside keeper produced a Rob Green moment (vs Croatia) but the back pass was not on target and went behind for a corner.

A highlight of the match came as Cooke ran into the box and backheeled the ball looking for Penman but the defender got there first and produced a rabona "dirty clearance"!

Cardea added the second goal when Hart powered through the defence on the right and his hard cross was smashed into the corner of the goal by an unlucky Parkside defender.

Cardea had chances to add a third in the final minutes with Cooke and Penman working the keeper while Hart made confused noises on the wing.

The game finished 2-0 and while it was a bit scrappy at times Cardea will be please with the 3 points. The defence and keeper deserved their clean sheet for a composed display.

After the game joint manager Craig Robinson said: "Not the best performance today, but an important one. Defence was very good today. Didn't look threatened at all, we looked sloppy in the first half and did what we had to do to see the game out second half.

"Gav, Willy and Tett were my choices for MOTM and I've gone with Tett, looked very composed at right back. Week off next week, enjoy the break."

Manager Kev Webster added: "I thought today we won the game from how we controlled the game at the back. The back 5 was really good and kept their chances down to a minimum, Willy having a really good game along with man of the match Tett. Yeoman and Gav played really well in the middle and this gave us the platform to push on.

"We were a bit wasteful in the final 3rd so can all the attackers remember they can pass to each other, too many going for glory when a team mate was free. Team mate being the important part. Well played and winning these kind of games is what we need to do to claim a 3rd title."

Cardea FC have a week off next week and are next in action in the Hunts Cup against ICA Columbo on the 18th October.
