Cardea FC started their season with a 6-2 win over PIS at Bushfield.

The hosts started with Gav Sampson in goal behind a back four of Adam Simons, Stuart Yaxley, Michael Williams and Ryan Moore.

Gav Earl and Aaron Yeoman were in the centre of midfield with Alex Goymour and Kynan Bereznyckyj on the wings. Shane Cooke played attacking midfield with Luke Penman in front of him as striker.

The game started 10 minutes late due to PIS only having 9 men available with more to come later on.

Cardea took immediate advantage of the numbers with Penman and Cooke making it 2-0 in the first five minutes.

PIS were up to a full 11 around twenty minutes in but Cardea made it 3-0 five minutes later. A great flick over the top from Cooke was ran onto by Goymour who calmly slotted under the keeper for his first Cardea goal on his competitive debut.

After half time Cardea had a sloppy five minutes with Earl conceding a penalty, which was converted, and another goal in quick succession to give PIS some hope and make the score 3-2.

Rob Ames came on in place of Earl in the aftermath of the penalty.

Cardea soon had a two goal buffer again thanks to a great strike from Yeoman. The midfielder picked up the ball inside the PIS half and ran to the edge of the box before unleashing a perfect shot into the corner.

Into the last ten minutes Cardea added another couple of goals. The first was all down to Cooke, the number 9 ran from half way through three or four players into the area. He was fouled in the area but he stayed on his feet, took the ball round the keeper and lifted the ball into the net for a great solo effort.

Rob Ames grabbed his first competitive goal for Cardea when he was found in the area by Antonio Migneco. His shot from 10 yards bobbled and slipped under the keeper and rounded off the scoring.

The game finished 6-2 and the three points went to Cardea.

After the game joint manager Craig Robinson said: "Much better performance today than what we saw in pre season. We looked very shaky at 3-1 and it looked like the wheels had come off at 3-2.

"We managed to change the formation with Simons holding and Penman moving wide and it worked. Yeoman's goal to make it 4-2 in my opinion sealed the win and what a goal to do it. After that it turned into how may we would get with the pace of Penman, Cookie and Alex and the link up play with Rob we managed 2 more in the last 10 to put a nice shine in the result.

"Man of the match was Alex. Constant threat going forward and very good defensively when required."

Joint manager Kev Webster added: "Was very pleasing to get the three points and score 6 goals. We looked much better then some of the pre season games so that was very pleasing to see. The passing looked a lot sharper throughout and the team so a good attitude to claw back our goal advantage after conceding two sloppy goals.

"We are back on track and happy with the 3 points. Well played to all the scorers, great solo goal from Yeoman and a great man of the match performance from Alex. Well done lads, let's carry this forward. Games will only get harder."

Next up for Cardea is a visit to The Grange to play Netherton Reserves next Sunday at 10:30.
