Cardea FC scored four goals, but spurned a lot of opportunities, as they laboured to a 4-1 win over Diesel Power.

Cardea FC (4-3-3): Gav Sampson; Anthony Kiernan, Stuart Yaxley (c), Dale Moore, Kynan Bereznyckyj; Shane Cooke, Adam Simons, Aaron Yeoman; Alex Goymour, Rob Ames, Luke Penman. Subs: Antonio Migneco, Ryan Moore.

Cardea started the better team with the Diesel Power goalkeeper pulling off two great saves to deny Cooke and Goymour in the first 10 minutes.

It was Diesel Power who went in front after 15 minutes when they got numbers in the Cardea box and captain Stuart Yaxley smashed the ball into the back of his own net.

The lead only lasted for a minute, Cooke ran down the right into the box and pulled the ball back for Penman. The striker's first touch was excellent and he finished through the legs of the keeper.

Cardea continued to create chance after chance but continued to make the wrong decision in the final third.

Cooke almost put Cardea ahead with a fantastic free kick from 30 yards which the keeper tipped onto the underside of the bar and was cleared.

The league leaders had to wait until first half stoppage time to finally take the lead. Goymour was fouled on the edge of the area and this time Cooke struck it low into the corner, beating both the wall and the goalkeeper.

The second half followed the pattern of the first half. Defensively Cardea were very well organised and cleared up any attack that Diesel Power attempted but up front the decision making was still costing goals.

Antonio Migneco was brought on after an hour and he was involved in the third goal. Goymour played the ball to him in the area and he helped it on to Penman who diverted the ball into the net.

The forth goal came from another free kick. Penman broke clear of the defence but was fouled by the keeper just outside the area. Cooke found the top corner with this kick, giving the keeper no chance.

The game finished 4-1 and continued Cardea's 100% start in the league.

After the game joint manager Craig Robinson said: "Well Done on another 3 points, we dominated the match but we should be putting teams like that to bed before the 75th minute. Sorry to end things today on a sour note but it needed saying. We need to more clinical in the upcoming games otherwise we will get punished by better teams.

"Man of the match was Shane, he was involved in every goal and without him today we wouldn't have won the game."

Kev Webster added: "Passing and decision making in the final third of pitch needs to be improved. We need to start playing as more of a team up front, everywhere else the team work seems to be okay.

"The defence is solid and well organised, it's just up top where we have so much quality it's a shame we don't show that killer mentality to finish teams off. We are more then capable. 3 points is key, performances will improve when we play week in week out not every other week."
