Cardea FC continued their fine start to PSMFL Division 2 with a 8-0 win over Netherton United.

Cardea started with Gav Sampson in goal behind a back four of Andrew James, Michael Williams, Stuart Yaxley and Kynan Bereznyckyj.

Gav Earl and Shane Cooke started in central midfield with Alex Goymour and Antonio Migneco on the wings. Luke Penman played up top with Aaron Yeoman in the number 10 role.

The first half was a close contest with the teams only separated by a Penman goal. It came in the 17th minute and was made by "Mr Hollywood" Gav Earl with a ball over the top of defence which Penman ran onto and lobbed the keeper.

Rob Ames came on at half time and went up top with Penman operating on the right.

When the two teams came out for the second half it was a completely different game with Cardea scoring goals for fun. It could have been different if Sampson didn't pull off an important save to stop Netherton drawing level early on.

Cardea scored two goals in five minutes just before the hour mark and they were both similar goals. Penman ran into space on the right and crossed for Ames to score a tap in. Penman did the same again moments later and this time Goymour scored the goal.

Five minutes later and Cooke got his third goal of the season, Ames found the Cardea number 9 in the area and Cooke skipped past challenges and smashed the ball past the keeper.

The roles were reversed for the fifth goal with Cooke passing to Ames to finish well.

Michael Creek came into the action and was close to scoring when he picked up a loose ball from a corner but his effort went just wide.

The Netherton heads were well and truly down and it got worse when a poor goalkeepers kick was pounced on by Goymour who ran directly in on goal and finished with great composure.

It was another goalkeeper error for goal number 7 as Penman's shot was fumbled and Yeoman had a simple tap in.

Migneco rounded the scoring off in the last 10 minutes when he headed in a Ames cross.

Penman scored a ninth for Cardea but it was ruled out as the referee blew the full time whistle as the ball went over the line.

It was the ultimate game of two halves with Cardea becoming more clinical in the second half and scoring goals for fun.

After the game manager Kev Webster said: "Well played today boys. Thought the first half we looked to play the long ball too much and never really troubled them. Second half was much improved and we passed the ball like we should and scored 7 goals.

"Today I thought Penman had a decent game with a great finish and 3 assists and was close to the man of the match award. For me the man of the match was Rob Ames coming off the bench to score 2 and set up 2. Alex was another contender with a great second half.

"Well done to Antonio for his first competitive goal for Cardea. A special mention has to go to Gav Earl for finally getting a Hollywood pass right. Also thanks to Frags for helping us out today. Rest up and we go again against Moorhen on the 27th."

Cardea have a week off next Sunday with the next game on the Bushfield 3G against AFC Moorhen.
