A late goal from captain Daryl Patrick and a brace from Aaron Yeoman saw Cardea beat Diesel Power 3-2

Cardea lined up with Gav Sampson in goal and a back three of Michael Williams, Gav Earl and Dale Moore. Daniel Robinson and Kynan Bereznyckyj started as wingbacks.

With Shane Cooke held up at work Adam Simons joined Daryl Patrick and Aaron Yeoman in the Cardea midfield with Matthew Jarvis and Luke Penman up front.

Cardea made a fast start to the game and it took a good save from the Diesel Power keeper to stop a Yeoman free kick going in.

Patrick had a chance cleared off the line moments later but from the following corner Cardea scored the opener. The corner from Simons was swung in and nodded into the net by Yeoman for a rare headed goal.

Patrick almost doubled the lead 5 minutes later but he hit the post and Penman shot wide from the rebound.

Diesel Power scored an equaliser against the run of play mid way through the half when the striker lobbed keeper Sampson after Yeoman lost the ball.

Cardea nearly retook the lead ten minutes later when a Williams overhead kick came back off the bar from a corner. The rebound was saved and the next shot hit the woodwork again.

After half time the Cardea domination continued and the woodwork was struck again by Simons followed up by a shot wide by Patrick.

Cardea regain the lead in the 66th minute after Jarvis was fouled in the box and Yeoman scored the penalty.

Ryan Moore and Michael Creek came into the action from the bench.

The lead only lasted 5 minutes however, a shot/cross into the Cardea box was turned in at the back post by Liam Buchan.

This led to all out attack from Cardea with Yeoman, Penman and Patrick all having chances to score.

But the winner was scored in the 82nd minute when Patrick latched onto a through ball from Penman and struck the ball past the oncoming keeper into the back of the net.

The game finished and it was a deserved victory for Cardea as they kept pace with the other teams at the top of the league.

After the game manager Kev Webster said: "For me today we showed character and a great team spirit to fight all the way to the end to finish the game with all three points. We had little luck going our well today but credit to the Diesel Power defence, they stood strong and dealt with a lot of what we threw at them.

"The whole team played well and on another day the score line would have reflected how well we played. For me man of the match was out of Daz who was driving forward to get the win or Yeoman for his control and two goals. Yes it was Yeomans fault for the first goal but for me he just edges Daz for MOM. Well done boys the rest of the games are only going to get harder."

Manager Craig Robinson added: "The most one sided one goal victory ever! The cross bar was hit more times then I can remember. The game should have been over by half time a scrappy but deserved win."

Next up for Cardea is a league game against Artemis on the 22nd March.
