Cardea FC won the PSMFL Division 2 by five points thanks to a 2-1 win over Farcet United which saw cameo appearances from the management team.

The divisional winners shield was presented to the team from a PSMFL member before kick off and, despite the pouring rain, the celebrations continued onto the pitch as Cardea finished their season off in style.

The champions started with Gav Sampson in goal behind a back three of Stuart Yaxley, Dale Moore and Anthony Kiernan. Ryan Moore and Kynan Bereznyckyj were wingbacks.

The midfielders were Michael Williams, Aaron Yeoman and Daryl Patrick with Tom Broughton and Luke Penman up front.

Farcet took the lead after 15 minutes but Cardea quickly equalised with a great strike from Penman, assisted by Yeoman.

At half time managers Kev Webster and Craig Robinson came onto the pitch alongside Anton Fountain and reserve team top scorer Adam Stacey.

Both managers were lucky to stay out of the referee's book with the pair of them producing dirty challenges as they tried to keep up with the pace of the game, the ref obviously gave them the benefit of the doubt!

However, the substitutions seemed to work as Cardea scored the winning goal around the hour mark. It was scored by Daryl Patrick from a Penman cross with Robinson producing the key pass.

It was a fitting way to finish the season with Patrick scoring the winning goal in his last game before hanging up his boots after captaining Cardea FC to back to back titles.

Cardea spent the last 20 minutes with a back four of Broughton, Robinson, Patrick and Bereznyckyj as the defenders went up front to try and score with Kiernan playing left wing! The lead was preserved thanks to some fine saves by man of the match Sampson.

The final whistle went and the celebrations could really start for the champions.

The result meant Cardea finished the season with a 100% away record with 8 wins out of 8, conceding only 5 goals.

After the game Webster said: "It was nice to have had the league won with a game to spare so we could enjoy this game without any pressure. The lads played the game in good spirits and it was nice to have the champagne moment we missed out on last season.

"Despite the changes and the fact management had a run out we still won the game. Was a good way to end a hard season. Enjoy the rest and hope to see all of you back for the new season."

Robinson added: "Nice to end the season with a victory and even nicer to have personally shown the lads the art of defending. Was a pleasure to play for the team and a pleasure to have managed them to another title. I have signed a year extension to carry on into division 1. Let's go win another title!"

With the season now complete Cardea FC can look forward to an interclub match with Cardea Reserves on the 24th May followed by the club's presentation evening.
