Cardea FC are now only 1 point away from the Division 2 title following an 8-2 hammering of Walnut Tree at Langtoft.

Cardea started with Gav Sampson in goal and a back three of Anthony Kiernan, Tony Harper and Michael Williams. The wingbacks were Adam Simons and Ryan Moore.

In midfield were Gav Earl, Shane Cooke and Aaron Yeoman with Luke Penman and Tom Broughton up front.

The match was barley a minute old when Broughton felt his hamstring go and Kynan Bereznyckyj came on in his place (a substitution which Kynan says changed the game). Bereznyckyj went to wingback with Simons moving up the pitch to play along side Penman.

Cardea took the lead after three minutes thanks to a Penman goal from a Yeoman pass. Penman doubled his tally 15 minutes later with a lob over the keeper from a Cooke assist.

The third and forth goals came around the half hour mark. Firstly a trademark run from Cooke into the area was finished off by the Cardea number 9 and 2 minutes later Penman played in Simons to score his first of the season.

Cooke made it 5 before half time with a similar goal to his first.

Daniel Robinson and Michael Creek came off the subs bench into the action in the second half.

After half time the goals kept on coming and Simons completed his hat-trick with two goals assisted by Cooke and Penman.

As the game headed towards the end Walnut Tree won a penalty following a foul by Robinson which was scored by their goalkeeper.

Cardea restored their 7 goal lead moments after thanks to a Creek pass to Penman who finished well to complete his hat-trick with his 20th goal of the season.

Walnut Tree scored another consolation late on with a good finish but it was Cardea's day.

After the final whistle manager Craig Robinson said: "Very good performance today, blew them away with 5 goals in 35 minutes, there was a small period of play where we sunk to their level with petty fouls, but we ironed that out at half time. Good sold Performance, buzzing for the last game!

"Man of the match is hard again, Simons Hat-RICK, Cookies dominating display, Gav E had one of his best games, Penman's hat-RICK but I'm giving it to Yeoman, controlled the tempo of the game and ran things all game and got stuck in when needed. 1 more point boys!"

Kev Webster added: "I was happy with the first 35 mins, we played and passed the ball around well and scored 5 good goals. Second half we didn't show that same killer instinct, we could have hit double figures today. We need to introduce that killer instinct to destroy teams and make our goal difference better.

"All that said I was impressed with how we managed to play the game that looked to be going more physical then football. Well done to Simons getting his hat rick, Cookies solo runs were nice to see along with his vision to assist a team mate, Penman was close to MOM for me with his 3 goals and work rate. Have to give MOM to Yeoman, he controlled the game from start to finish. Big game on 3rd May. Well done boys."

Cardea go into their last game against Farcet United on 3rd May knowing only a point is needed for back to back titles.
