Cardea FC produced a fantastic performance to beat AFC Allbright 3-0 and bounce back from last weeks defeat.

Anton Fountain started in goal with Tom Rimes, Stuart Yaxley and Michael Williams in front of him. Kynan Bereznyckyj and Gav Earl started as wing backs. Shane Cooke, Aaron Yeoman and Daryl Patrick played in midfield with Luke Penman and Tom Broughton up front.

The game didn't start well for Cardea as just two minutes in Broughton pulled up with a hamstring injury and Daniel Robinson came on to replace him. Robinson moved to full back as Earl played up front with Penman.

AFC Allbright, coming off a 9-0 win over Fenland Police, began the better team and had Cardea penned back in their own half for much of the first period. However thanks to the defensive work from the back five and the three midfielders Allbright could not force Fountain into a save.

When Cardea went forward they always looked dangerous. Cardea created their first chance after 10 minutes when Penman was on the byline and backheeled the ball to Cooke who's cross hit the top of the crossbar with the keeper struggling.

Rimes also went close with a towering header from a corner. Earl had the ball in the back of the net but it was dubiously ruled out for offside.

Earl created another chance for himself on twenty minutes when he was first to a loose ball and struck a superb volley from 20 yards but the bar again came to Allbright's rescue.

Cardea took the lead half way through the first period. A free kick from Williams was half cleared to the edge of the area where Patrick took a shot, his shot was controlled by Yeoman in the area who found Penman in space and the striker blasted the ball past the keeper.

Cardea doubled their lead on 35 minutes. Cooke won the ball on the wing and did some keepy ups past the Allbright defence and lobbed the keeper for a fantastic finish.

As half time approached Penman had the chance to add a third but his shot was saved.

After the break the referee produced the first card of the game. The Allbright attacker was running dangerously towards the Cardea box but he was pulled back by Williams, the Allbright player then kicked out at the Cardea defender. The referee didn't see the kick out and booked Williams for the foul. The resulting free kick went harmlessly out of play.

The pattern of the second half was Allbright trying to break through the Cardea defensive lines. However if they got in behind the midfield three the defenders swept up everything that came their way. Yaxley, Williams and Rimes all made important headers throughout the match.

The Cardea front two kept the pressure on the Allbright defence by constantly pressuring the defenders and making runs in behind.

Despite having less possession Cardea produced the best chances in the second half, mostly falling to Cooke.

A cross by Earl into the box was cleared to the edge of the area and Cooke shot just over the bar.

On 75 minutes Penman was picked out in the box and his shot was saved, Cooke was first to the rebound but poked his effort over the bar again.

Cooke completed a hat trick of misses when he shot wide when free in the box.

Dale Moore came on for a tired Bereznyckyj who had worked hard for 75 minutes at left wing back.

As the game entered added time AFC Allbright won a free kick 25 yards out. The shot went low and took a deflection on the way but Fountain was equal to it and earned himself a deserved clean sheet in an impressive performance.

A minute later and Cardea were on the attack again, Cooke played a ball through for Penman who got in behind the Allbright defence and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to wrap up the points.

The referee brought the contest to a close and it was a brilliant result and performance from Cardea FC.

After the game manager Kev Webster said: "I was looking for a reaction after last weeks performance and from the first to the last whistle we were quality. Last week was a massive wake up call and beating a team 3-0 who won 9-0 the week before just shows how good we are and how tight this league will be.

"Today and the Yaxley game are the two best I've seen as whole team. If we keep that up for the rest of the season who knows what we can achieve. You were all faultless today and it was a tough call for man of the match, the back 3 were outstanding, the 3 in the middle won the midfield battle, the wing-backs was solid and the two up front made the ball stick and carried a threat, even though Gav spent most of it offside!!

"For his overall performance and aerial dominance Tom Rimes was man of the match. Well done lads, was a joy to watch."

Cardea take on unbeaten Premiair FC next Sunday at Bushfield.
