Alex Goymour scored a hat-trick as Cardea beat Halcyon 10-3 to progress to the next round of the PFA Cup.

Cardea FC (3-1-4-2): Gavin Sampson; Ryan Moore, Tony Harper, Dale Moore; Mark Baines; Alex Goymour, Aaron Yeoman, Shane Cooke, Dom Goymour; John Reddell, Luke Penman. Subs: Jay Rimes, Rob Ames, Anton Fountain.

Cardea had the better of the early chances and it seemed to be a contest of who can miss the goal by the furthest between Reddell and Cooke. Reddell won with ease with the RSPCA being alerted as one of his kicks disturbed a bird nest high up in the Werrington trees.

The opening goal was scored just after 15 minutes and it was the Goymour brothers linking up. Dom passed to Alex and his shot deflected into the net.

The second came along straight away with Cooke finding Reddell who passed across the area and Penman tapped in at the far post.

The third goal was the pick of the bunch. Reddell was fouled on the edge of the area and a free kick was awarded. Cooke stepped up and lifted the ball over the wall and guided the ball into the top corner (see video).

Halcyon responded with a goal back thanks to a free header from a corner but Cardea went straight up the other end with Cooke finding Dom Goymour to make it 4-1 at half time.

After the break Halcyon made the better start with a breakaway goal to make it 4-2 but this spurred Cardea to score 3 times in a 5 minute spell.

Reddell grabbed the first two thanks to crosses from Yeoman and Dom Goymour and Yeoman also assisted the next one playing in Alex Goymour to score his second to make it 7-2.

Halcyon scored another one on one to make it 7-3 but Cardea would complete the scoring. With 20 minutes to play Alex Goymour played in Penman whose shot went in off the post.

Penman then repaid the favour 10 minutes later with a lay off for Alex Goymour to complete his hat-trick, his first for Cardea.

The scoring was rounded off in the 90th minute when Dale Moore passed to Cooke who went round a couple of defenders and then the keeper and tapped into the empty net to score the tenth.

A comfortable day at the office for Cardea with some good goals scored.

After the game manager Craig Robinson said: "Nice comfortable win. Never looked in any trouble.

"Well done to everyone today, singling out Baines for his control of the game, he dominated the midfield and kept the ball moving. Alex for a superb hat trick and my MOTM Reddell for leading the line bullying their centre backs and scoring two."

Cardea have a week off next week before returning to cup action against Parkway in the Hereward Cup.
