Cardea reached the quarter finals of the Hereward Cup with an impressive team performance that saw them record a 5-1 win over AFC Allbright.

Cardea FC (3-5-1-1): Gav Sampson; Stuart Yaxley (c), Dale Moore, Anthony Kiernan; Kynan Bereznyckyj, Ryan Moore; Aaron Yeoman John Reddell, Tom Staggs; Shane Cooke; Luke Penman. Subs: Michael Creek, Alex Goymour, Rob Ames, Daryn Whiteman.

After ten minutes of even play Cardea took the lead with a goal that was brilliant in it's execution. Yeoman picked the ball up on half way and took a few strides forward before producing a superb reverse pass to Cooke in the area who then found Penman who tapped past the keeper.

A fantastically worked goal with great vision and movement from the players involved.

Cardea doubled their lead with another well worked goal. Yaxley sent the ball forward to Yeoman and the midfielder found Penman in the area who finished well for his second of the game. It was a good pass from Yeoman despite Michael Creek thinking he had scuffed a shot across the box!!

Penman was gifted a 30 minute hat-trick when a stray cross field pass from the Allbright midfielder was picked up by the striker. One on one with the keeper there was only one outcome and it was 3-0 to Cardea, although Penman picked up a knee injury when the keeper caught him after his shot.

History was made just before half time when Bereznyckyj picked up a yellow card for the first time in his Cardea career when he put in a challenge internet sensation Gav Earl would be proud of!

After half time Allbright pulled a goal back with a fantastic header which found the top corner.

Allbright had more of the ball in the second half but on the hour mark Cooke won a penalty for Cardea after he was fouled in the area. Yeoman got back to scoring ways and converted from the spot.

Sampson in the Cardea goal had to be alert to keep the score at 4-1 when the Allbright attacker found space down the middle one on one but Sampson stood tall and saved his shot.

In the whole the defence of Kiernan, Yaxley and Dale Moore, supported by the wing backs, played superbly, showing great composure on the ball and producing some great challenges.

Up the other end the fifth goal came on the counter attack with 15 minutes to go. Penman got up well for a header from a long clearance and Cooke took control, taking the ball into the area, around a couple of players and smashing it past the keeper.

Cardea nearly added a sixth late on but Cooke's ball to Ames gave the striker a bit too much to do and the keeper came out and took the ball but also studded Ames' ankle leading to a confrontation between the two and a booking each.

The referee called an end to the game and Cardea eased into the quarter finals of the Hereward Cup with a comfortable win over their closest league rivals.

After the game manager Craig Robinson said: "Well done today lads. Big win and big statement made. We had a lot of ball and used it well. When we were under pressure we stood up strong and were unlucky to concede. Big performance from everyone.

"I'm giving man of the match today to Reddell for being a beast all game! Penman came very close with his hat-trick and Yeoman's pass for the first goal was unbelievable. Credit to Staggs, his first start for the team, thrown in against a good side and looked very good throughout."

"12 games left to win this treble!!"

Kev Webster said: "Well done."

Next up for Cardea is a return to league action against PIS at Fulbridge Road next week.
