Cardea firsts were fastest out of the traps at the start of the game with Michael Williams scoring with a header from an Aaron Yeoman corner. It was a good day for Williams as he picked up the Managers Player and Players Player awards at the presentation evening later in the day.

Cardea Reserves levelled the game up mid way through the half. A ball in from Billy Thomson was headed over keeper Gav Sampson and into the net by Phil Butler.

Both teams had chances to take the lead before the break with Reserves striker Adam Stacey forcing Sampson into a good save and, at the other end, Dave Rogerson cleared a Simons shot off the line and collided with the post in the process.

Cardea Reserves nearly shocked the first team in the opening moments of the second half, a great shot from Ryan Bradley was curling into the top corner before Sampson somehow got his hand to the ball to tip it round for a corner.

Simons scored what turned out to be the winning goal 10 minutes into the second half when he was played into the area by Gav Earl and he showed good footwork to take it round the defenders and slot past Andy Yeomans in the Reserves goal.

Earl went into the referee's book for a bad foul on Gary Wigmore, to go along with his premeditated fouls on Adam Stacey and Chris Arnold earlier in the game!!

Cardea firsts had the chance to extend their lead after Rich Kay fouled Yeoman to give away a penalty. Yeoman stepped up to take the kick but struck the bar to keep the score at 2-1.

He was nearly made to pay for the miss when, in the last 10 minutes, a Stacey pass fell to Reserves assistant manager Lee Knowles in the area but his shot was saved by Sampson.

The referee called the game to an end and Cardea first team had won the first ever Cardea Cup.

After the game the two sides competed in a penalty shoot-out which the Reserve team comfortably won.
