Cardea FC smashed 9 goals past Halcyon to ease into the semi finals of the McCain Cup with 4 Shane Cooke goals and a Luke Penman hat-trick.

Cardea started with Gav Sampson in goal behind a back three of Stuart Yaxley, Gav Earl and Dale Moore. Kynan Bereznyckyj and Ryan Moore played as wingbacks.

The middle three were Daryl Patrick, Adam Simons and Aaron Yeoman with Penman and Cooke up top.

Halcyon turned up to a cup quarter final with only 10 men and paid the price in a big way.

Penman opened the scoring after only 2 minutes as he tucked home following a pass from Cooke.

Cardea were in complete control and had great chances to score more goals with captain Patrick having three great first half chances, including an open goal. Bereznyckjy and Yeoman also shot over with Penman having a goal disallowed for offside.

Cardea finished the half well and added 2 goals before the half time whistle. Penman and Cooke scored the goals with each assisting the other as well.

At half time Cardea changed to a 3-4-1-2 formation with Daniel Robinson coming on.

The move had an immediate affect with Penman scoring, again from a Cooke pass, just after half time.

The goals kept on coming for the home team, Robinson crossed a great ball into the box and Cooke headed home and minutes later Ryan Moore played a ball through to Cooke who skinned the keeper and tapped in for the sixth goal.

Gary Wigmore, Andrew James and Tom Broughton all came on with 30 minutes to go.

It didn't take long for Broughton to grab his first goal since his return from injury. Yeoman passed the ball through and Broughton took a couple of great touches and smashed the ball past the keeper.

Into the last five minutes Cooke got his forth thanks to another assist from Ryan Moore and Robinson rounded off the scoring with his third goal in three McCain Cup games.

The referee called an end to the mauling and it was a comfortable passage through to the McCain Cup Semi-Finals where tougher opposition will be waiting.

After the game manager Craig Robinson said: "We dominated from start to finished, created lots of chances and looked solid at the back. The game was over at half time so I switched the formation to give us more options going forward and it worked well with 6 second half goals.

"Good to see Tommy B on the score sheet, well done to Robbo who has scored in every round of this cup. Enjoyed seeing the friendly battle between cookie and penman for goals, congrats to both, massive contribution to today's score line and general play MOTM is Shane, 4 goals and 4 assists. Penman a close second."

Kev Webster added: "Today proved why some people see Sunday football as a joke. Opposition turning up with just 10 men was ridiculous. Scoring in the first minute killed the game and we controlled the game well from then on. Over all it was a good game for the forwards and I did enjoy the battle of Cookie and Penman for top goal scorer.

"In fairness that was the contest a very boring one sided game produced. Positive was we scored goals and finally killed a team off. Bigger test next week so need to be switched on and focused. Man of the match has to be Cookie, 4 goals and 4 assists. Well done to Penman on his hat-trick and a welcome return to the goals for Tom B. Well done lads, semi final here we come."

Cardea FC return to league action next week against Farcet United knowing 4 points in 2 games will secure back to back titles.
