A second half hat trick from sub Mike Dandrilli ensured Cardea made it eight out of eight pre season wins with a 7-1 win over Werrington Dragons.

Werrington Sports Centre was the location for this afternoon kick off and the sun was beating down on the dry pitch. It was a slow start for Cardea, who struggled to string many passes together in the first ten minutes.

The first goalkeeper called into action was Craig Robinson, making his Cardea comeback after 9 months out, when he was forced into a flying save from an Adam Stacey 20 yard snapshot.

This seemed to wake Cardea up from their slumber and Tom Broughton was soon causing problems at the other end when he rounded the keeper but could only hit the side of the post. Michael Williams then had a shot that just skimmed over the bar.

Half way through the first half a well worked short corner resulted in Aaron Yeoman running along the byline and squaring it for Tony Harper who's attempt at a shot was blocked and a goalmouth scramble followed with the Dragons somehow managing to get the ball away.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 32nd minute when Ali Stewart worked his way in from the left and found Adam Simons who slid the ball home from 12 yards.

Cardea's second came when Tom Broughton crossed in a ball from the right and Ali Stewart arrived at the back post to head past the keeper. As half time approached the Dragons won a corner which led to a chance for Dave Hardingham which was tipped over by Robinson. Keeper Robinson then showed he still had good feet, despite not having a knee, to skin Nathan Wilson and clear the ball.

Cardea grabbed a third before half time after Stewart flicked it through to Yeoman who found himself one on one with only the keeper to beat and calmly slotted it home. Yeoman later claimed he "never misses one on ones!!"

Several subs were made at half time with Anton Fountain having a game outfield and Adam Simons moving into central midfield to accommodate Mike Dandrilli up front.

The Cardea domination continued after the break with Broughton firing a shot over and ten minutes after the break Yeoman managed to score direct from a corner for the second time in pre season.

On the hour mark Broughton managed to skip round the keeper again but was pushed wide and he saw his effort hit the post for the second time in the match. It was 5-0 minutes later when Yeoman played in Dandrilli to slot home his first.

Just a minute later and Werrington Dragons grabbed a goal themselves when captain Dave Hardingham powered a header into the net. Cardea responded well and nearly had a sixth when a shot from Kynan Bereznyckyj was parried by the keeper and put into the net by Broughton, who had been flagged offside.

Dandrilli then bagged another two quick goals as he completed his hat trick. The first came from an Adam Simons pass, who was enjoying a good half in central midfield. His third and Cardea's 7th came when he finished a cross put in by Broughton.

The final whistle was blown and it was 8 out of 8 pre season victories for Cardea. Manager Kev Webster said: "It was a good performance despite a slow start and it was easy to get carried away playing against this opposition, but overall we controlled the game well and scored some good goals. Congratulations to the hat trick hero!!"

The man of the match went to Michael Williams who had another solid match for Cardea. Although mentions also go to Ali Stewart, who was involved in all the first half goals, and Aaron Yeoman who recovered from a slow start to have a very productive game.

Next up for Cardea is a trip to Riverside, British Sugar for a game against Fletton Sports. Fletton have also been having a good pre season and will provide tough opposition in the upcoming season.
