Cardea continued their good start to pre season as they crushed Peterborough Athletic 9-2 in a game that only lasted 85 minutes after a 20 man brawl.

In blustery conditions at the Bushfield 3G Cardea didn't get off to a great start after conceding from a free kick wide on the right level with the 18 yard box. The ball went all the way to the back post where it was headed in at the second attempt.

Cardea weren't behind for long though after a cross from Tom Broughton found George Greetham, who made up for a earlier miss by powering a header passed the goalkeeper. Seven minutes later and Cardea were ahead after a cross from Dale Moore found Tom Rimes 6 yards out who shot passed the keeper.

The Cardea front four were linking up well with Adam Simons and Tom Broughton in particular combining well. Aaron Yeoman played Broughton through who finished one on one for Cardea's third goal and Broughton's forth in two matches.

With just over half an hour gone Cardea had a couple of great chances to extend their lead through Daryl Patrick and George Greetham. Firstly Simons played Patrick through on goal who managed to chip to ball over the keeper only for the bar to come to Athletic's rescue. Greetham then missed what some are already calling the "miss of the season" when he smashed the bar from 6 yards out.

The lead was cut to 3-2, just before half time, when Athletic scored through a rare attack and prodded in at the near post. The comeback lasted all of a minute though as Greetham crossed for Patrick to neatly control and curl passed the keeper with the help of a deflection.

Half time arrived with the score at 4-2 to Cardea and the usual pre season mass subs were made. The changes didn't stop Cardea's momentum though as just after half time Yeoman scored direct from a cross following a well worked short corner.

The back four were seeing off every Athletic attack with ease and were bringing out the ball with confidence. Just before the hour mark Tom Greetham picked out Daniel Robinson who fired an 18 yard bullet passed the goalkeeper for the sixth.

It was soon 7-2 after 62 minutes when Mike Dandrilli managed to get a touch on a corner to score from a yard out. More Cardea pressure followed and the eighth goal came in the 76th minute when right back Dale Moody played a ball over the top to find George Greetham who confidently finished from just inside the area.

In the 80th minute Tom Greetham played in Dandrilli who ran onto the ball and fired in a shot which took a big deflection as flew passed the frustrated goalkeeper to make it 9-2.

The match only lasted another five minutes when constant fouling on Dale Moore resulted in the defender squaring up to his opponent and start off a 20 man brawl that included the Peterborough Athletic goalkeeper sprinting 90 yards to attempt to push somebody. Moore managed to escape the grapple with no further damage to his little finger!

Despite the early finish it was another impressive display from Cardea and manager Kev Webster was pleased saying: "Well done lads, great first half. The wind was against us but we still played some good football and always looked in control of a game we dominated.

"We scored some well worked goals and the link up play was a joy to watch. Lets enjoy the squad game next week and keep the momentum going for our next friendly against Woodston Rangers."

As mentioned by Kev, next up for Cardea is a squad game next Sunday afternoon and training will start at Bushfield at 7.30 this Wednesday.
