Broughton scores hat-trick in rout

A sunny Sunday morning at the Bushfield 3G saw Cardea FC record an easy win, which was only threatened by a late referee.

Aaron Yeoman ensured Cardea were always in control of the match early on when he scored directly from a corner in the 2nd minute. Poor defending saw the ball creep in at the near post.

Yeoman was involved again in the 14th minute when he played a defence splitting pass to Broughton who tucked the ball home from inside the area. AFC Peterborough were struggling to deal with set pieces and the Cardea front lines pace. A powerful 50 yard run from Tom Rimes nearly saw the score increased, but half time arrived with the score at 2-0 to Cardea FC.

Four changes were made at half time with Tom Greetham & Phil Brown making their Cardea debuts.

AFC made a better start to the second half with some early pressure but normal service was soon resumed and Cardea should have added to their tally with chances for Mike Dandrilli and George Greetham. The AFC keeper also made a smart near post save to deny Rimes.

Cardea had to wait until the 77th minute to extend their lead when Daniel Robinson played in Tom Broughton who outpaced the AFC defence and slotted past the keeper. Broughton completed his hat-trick in the 85th minute when he scored a penalty which he earned after he was brought down by the goalkeeper.

After the game manager Kevin Webster was happy with the performance: "It's a good, solid start to pre season. Well done to Tom for this hat-trick, Anton for his clean sheet and Yeoman for his man of the match display.

"We need to remember the next game won't be as easy as today, so let's build on this and aim for an unbeaten pre season!"

Next up for Cardea will be a week today on the 23rd June when they take on Peterborough Athletic at Bushfield 3G.
