CARDEA AND LANGTOFT SHARE THE POINTS

Cardea missed out on all 3 points against Langtoft after being 2-0 up.

After last weeks positive performance against Premiair, the message to the lads from the management was to get the basics right and not slip up.

The first 15 minutes was very even as Cardea were sloppy in midfield and couldn’t work the ball to feet often enough. Langtoft will have felt unlucky to concede the first goal but Kieran Hart was quicker to get on to a Langtoft throw and ran through 1 on 1 to finish into the bottom corner calmly.

Cardea now had control of the game and forced a couple of good saves from the Langtoft keeper, while at the other end, a couple of mix ups almost got Langtoft back in to the game.

There was no mix up with the next goal, Kieran Hart superbly using his body to roll his man after a throw in from Ash Baldwin and thundering a shot in to the top corner from 30 yards. Certainly a contender for goal of the season this year. 0-2.

The rest of the half was much more of the same, even play in midfield and the game became very end to end.

After half time, Langtoft came out strong and put Cardea under early pressure. They pulled a goal back with a good finish from the striker who had caused Cardea a few minor headaches in the first half.

Instead of acting calmly, Cardea let this affect them and immediately conceded a second in as many minutes. The linesman has his flag up but was ignored by the referee after lots of shouting from Langtoft.

The game now became end to end, Cardea were piling on the pressure and had Langtoft camped inside their own half. Langtoft using strength and pace upfront and out wide to play on the break and if it wasn’t for some excellent defending, could have got a third.

Captain John Reddell came close and beat the keeper with a great strike only for it to be headed clear on the line by the defender.

The games end to end nature certainly tested the fitness levels of everyone on the pitch and Cardea pressed hard for a winner. Gentle, Ginger Giant Tom Rimes became a target man but to no avail.

The final chance of the game fell to Antonio Esposito from a Dandrilli free kick, unfortunately for Esposito the ball just didn’t drop enough for him to put his header on target.

After the game, manager Matt Robinson said: “A typical game of 2 halves really today in terms of the goals but I felt that overall we should have won. I’m annoyed that we couldn’t manage a game even when 2-0 up but perhaps we have got lucky with some other results today.

"Next week will be a tough game and we will probably go in as underdogs against Warboys after their recent form so we will need to improve”

MOTM was awarded to goalscorer Kieran Hart who was full of running and took both his goals very well. A lot of credit also goes to skipper John Reddell who had to roll back the years to manage to deal with the pace of the game towards the end!
