It was a new ground for Cardea to tick off as we made our way to the Holbeach United Community Sports Academy for the first time. The game was played on 3G in sweltering conditions.

Both teams went into the game unbeaten and it was a very even first half with both sides creating good chances.

Holbeach went ahead in the 21st minute. A good run down the left was cut back into the box and finished by the incoming attacker.

Kieran Hart thought he had equalised but a superb save from the Holbeach keeper tipped his flicked header onto the post and he gathered the ball to preserve the Holbeach lead.

But in the 32nd minute the scores were level. Ames played the ball into the box, Hart stepped over it and Thomas Klinkovics finished past the keeper to equalise.

The second half was played like a basketball game such was the end to end action.

Only crucial last ditch challenges from Kilby and Reddell prevented Holbeach regaining the lead.

Up the other end Hart and Forson both saw shots go inches wide.

The action continued into stoppage time and when the Holbeach keeper ran out of his area to clear the ball his clearance was picked up by Thomas Klinkovics who took a touch and shot, his effort started well wide of the target but curled in magnificently to find the top corner as defenders gathered on the line.

With two minutes still to play it was nearly heartbreak for Cardea as the Holbeach striker ran through one on one with James Wilson in the Cardea goal but the keeper stood tall and saved the effort with his foot to ensure the 3 points would be Cardea's.

A very entertaining game between two good sides. Two wins and a draw to start the season means Cardea are the early league leaders.
