CARDEA WIN THE PETERBOROUGH CHALLENGE CUP

Cardea FC: (4-2-3-1): Fin Britton; Max Woods, Michael Williams, Dylan Martin, Peter James; Kyle Ginns, Martyn Fox; Rob Ames, Ian King, Thomas Klinkovics; Giles Abban.
Substitutes: Kieran Hart, John Reddell, Mitch Tomkin, Matt Smith, Michael Norris.

Both teams came into the game off the back of big wins last weekend but it was Cardea who started the quickest. Klinkovics beating his man on the left and his cross/shot was palmed away by the keeper into the path of Kyle Ginns who controlled the ball and drilled it in to open the scoring.

Twenty minutes in and the game had to be stopped for around an hour due to a bad arm injury to Deeping midfielder Matty Kent, everyone at Cardea wishes him the best for his recovery.

The game resumed under the floodlights and Cardea were on the front foot looking to double to lead with Klinkovics shooting over the bar after a good move.

However, in the 32nd minute it was 2-0 and it came in bizarre fashion. The ball was passed back to the Deeping keeper and Giles Abban closed down his kick which looped back over the keeper's head into the empty net.

Deeping were back in the game just before half time when they scored from a corner to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

In the second half Cardea took control of the game and extended their lead with the move of the game in the 57th minute. King ran through the midfield and found Klinkovics on the left, his first time ball into the box was headed back by Hart into the path of Ian King who scored his first goal for the Saturday side.

Seven minutes later it was 4-1. Klinkovics picked up a loose ball on the left and crossed into the box for Kieran Hart to sweep the ball in at the near post.

Into the last 10 minutes Cardea added a 5th. Hart headed the ball into the path of Thomas Klinkovics who made no mistake with the finish to wrap up the win for Cardea.

In the last minute of the 90 Deeping scored a consolation goal with a well timed overhead kick.

A fantastic performance from Cardea to win the Peterborough Challenge Cup and another great night for the club following the Sunday side's Hunts Cup triumph earlier in the month.

Next up attention shifts back to the league where the two side go head to head again next Thursday evening at Werrington.
