Cardea Firsts beat the Reserves 5-1 in the Hunts Cup final to win the cup for the second time.

Cardea Reserves: (4-2-3-1) Anton Fountain; Lewis Collins, Andrew James, Jon Saunders, Ethan Jones; James Roberts, Sean Roberts; Callum Boyes, James Ware, Ali Jallow; Josh Lovelock. Subs: Alfie Howarth, Isaac Myrie, Connor Shaw, Mike Dandrilli, Zach Nunn.

Cardea Firsts: (4-2-3-1) Bradley Kirchin; Peter James, Michael Williams, Stuart Yaxley, Chris Arnold; Daryl Patrick, Mark Rayment; Giles Abban, Martyn Fox, Kieran Hart; Rob Ames. Subs: Aston Whybrow, Ben Denton, Ed Sakovich, Kyle Ginns, Charlie Bosett.

There were big chances inside the first 5 minutes for both sides. Fox almost opened the scoring for the firsts but poked his effort over the bar and up the other end Ware came close with a long range effort which Kirchin tipped round the post to keep the game goalless despite half the crowd thinking the shot had gone in!

The deadlock was broken in the 9th minute and it was Fox in the 6 yard area who struck the ball past Fountain in the Reserves goal after good work on the left from Hart.

The half looked to be drifting into the break with the Firsts holding a narrow lead but the Hunts Cup specialist Rob Ames darted into the near post to convert a Hart cross in the 41st minute. Ames has won this cup 3 times before and this goal put the Firsts in pole position to add to his tally.

HT: Cardea Sunday Reserves 0-2 Cardea Sunday Firsts

The Reserves came out fired up in the second half and James Ware halved the deficit after winning possession 25 yards out and unleashing a great shot into the top corner.

It was a nervy 20 minutes which followed for both teams with neither side able to break down the others defence until the goal of the game settled the nerves of the first team.

Mark Rayment played a pin point pass and found Giles Abban in space on the edge of the area, the attacker took a touch and curled his shot round Fountain and into the side netting.

Abban was involved in the 4th playing a great ball over the Reserves defence to the quick paced Sakovich who produced a perfect lob over the outcoming keeper.

The scoring was wrapped up late on in stoppage time when Fountain looked to have fouled Bosett in the area. A decision which clearly wasn't appreciated by the Reserves defence who questioned when the Firsts had signed Tom Daley.

Bosett picked himself up and struck the penalty into the top corner via Fountains outstretched leg and was able to pull out the celebration he had been practicing for weeks!

FT: Cardea Sunday Reserves 1-5 Cardea Sunday Firsts

The Sunday Firsts emerged victorious although the match was more competitive than the scoreline suggests with the Reserves producing some good periods of football.

After the game winning manager Matt Robinson said: "Absolutely buzzing to have won the cup with this group of lads. We thoroughly deserved to win on the night and had control of the game for the majority.

"The lads have been superb all season and still have plenty more to offer.

"I would like to say well done to the reserves for getting to the final and thank everyone who come along to support the club!

"Let’s hope we can continue to improve and have a chance to win some more in the near future."

Club secretary Kev Webster added: "It's a proud achievement. The reserves battled hard and kept the first team at bay for just over 60 mins. In the end the quality of the firsts took over and they ran out deserved winners. Credit to all the lads involved and thanks to all that came to support and celebrate the occasion."

The firsts lifted the cup for the second time in the team's history with captain Daryl Patrick leading the celebrations.
