A last minute Thomas Klinkovics equaliser completed a good comeback from 3-1 down as Cardea Reserves kicked off Division 5A with an entertaining game.

Cardea Reserves (3-5-2): Andrew Yeomans; Aaron Guntrip, Stuart Yaxley, Jon Saunders; Aaron Lewis, James Roberts, Lee English, Stephen Snelling, Gavin Earl; Thomas Klinkovics, James Phillips. Subs: Martin Holyoak, Chris Ariss, Mitchell Tomkin, Steven Allsop, Peter Green.

Casterton carried some good league form from Division 5 going into the game and settled the quicker of the two teams and started controlling possession.

The better possession told and the away side broke the deadlock just before the 20th minute. A set piece was sent in and Cardea failed to clear and the ball was headed in.

It was 2-0 after half an hour after Yeomans parried a shot from the outside of the box but Casterton were quicker to react and found the top corner with the finish.

The second goal was the catalyst for the management team to change formation to a 4-2-3-1 and Cardea played much better as the game headed into the break.

Cardea continued to look for a breakthrough in the second half and it finally came in the 60th minute. Lee English won a header in midfield and passed to Klinkovics who played in Tomkin and the wingers finish was too strong for the keeper to keep out.

Up the other end some heroic defending kept Cardea in the game. The Casterton attacker went clean through and his shot was saved by Yeomans, the loose ball was met first by a Casterton player who smashed the ball against the underside of the bar and back out and then a follow up shot was blocked on the line.

Ten minutes later and Casterton did add a 3rd and looked to have sealed the game after a defensive error sent the striker through who produced a great finish.

Two minutes later and Cardea pulled one back. James Phillips played an inch perfect ball to Klinkovics who finished to set up a grand stand finish.

Klinkovics almost produced the goal of the season as the game entered the final 10 minutes. With the ball sent up in the air the striker performed an overhead kick but his effort hit the bar.

At the other end Casterton should have wrapped the points up as they were awarded a penalty after Yeomans brought down the striker who was clean through. Yeomans rolled back the years to produce a great penalty save to keep Cardea in the game with 5 minutes to play.

The Cardea pressure eventually paid off as Phillips swung in a great corner and Klinkovics was in the right place at the right time to find the net and rescue a point for Cardea.

FT: Cardea Reserves 3-3 Casterton FC

The man of the match was James Phillips.

After the game Cardea Reserves manager Dan Chamberlain said: "It took us about thirty minutes to turn up, we started massively off the pace. Partly down to the formation probably not being quite right.

"However after the formation change, we were the better side for the remainder of the game. Had we not have conceded three relatively sloppy goals we would have won the game comfortably.

"The fight back showed a lot about our character and our quality. We ended up being a little disappointed about coming away with only 1 point.

"As a while the game gave me a lot of confidence about the remainder of the season. Special thanks to First team lads that came down and had a massive influence on the game."

Next up for the Reserves is a trip to Stanground College to play Stanground Sports next Saturday. The first team are also back in action next week with an away game against Feeder FC.
