Cardea came from behind to beat FC Peterborough 1-5 in a game which saw Cardea coach Junior Jones referee the game as well as a sensational goal of the season contender!

Cardea management changed the shape of previous weeks and opted for a 3-4-1-2 formation in an effort to get the best out of the players available whilst remaining strong at the back.

After 3 minutes the management were left hoping the decision wouldn’t cost them as a mix up out wide allowed the FC Peterborough winger to drive into the area before poking the ball to the striker who finished well past James Wilson in goal. Some questionable defending all around.

Thankfully however, the goal woke Cardea up rather than deflated them and only 10 minutes later an excellently well built attack fell to Travis Brown out wide, the wing back driving a teasing cross/shot beyond the keeper and straight to Klinkovics who gratefully tapped in. The equaliser sparked a moment of confusion for FC Peterborough as their linesman had raised his flag in the build up but only to tell his teammate that the man in the middle was onside. Once this was cleared up, the goal stood. 1-1.

After 30 minutes it was 1-2 to Cardea. Some more excellent approach play out wide from Sam Cope led to a superb through ball to Kieran Hart who cut inside and shot. Fortunately, the rebound fell straight to Klink who tapped in for his second of the game from as many yards.

On 38 minutes, scorer became provider and a ball in to Klinkovics’ feet gave the forward a chance to turn before laying off a ball inside the opposition full back to Travis Brown. The marauding wing back took a touch before firing low past the keeper into the far corner. A finish which would have suggested Travis had been a regular scorer for Cardea rather than a scorer of fluky crosses and scuffed cut backs.

On the stroke of half time, came the moment of the game. And if Klinkovics showed his poachers instincts with his first two goals, then this certainly showed off his ability to score from outside the box too. A hopeful FC Peterborough ball in to the Cardea box was collected well by Wilson before the keeper launched a counter attack by kicking the ball over everyone and to Klinkovics who, 25 yards out from goal, controlled the ball perfectly, shifted the ball left and floated the ball over the keeper into the top left hand corner of the goal as you look at it. The goal was greeted with cheers and laughter from most of his teammates (except Kieran Hart who was more impressed that this time Klink hadn’t actually scored a “scummy goal”)

Soon after half time, manager Matthew Robinson made a few substitutions and changed the shape in order to explore his options and experiment a little. it is fair to say, the changes didn’t have the desired outcome and effected Cardeas flow and control on the game.

FC Peterborough, taking advantage of the disruption, created a number of chances and tested the back 4 as well as Wilson in goal. Wilson in particular played well making several superb saves. Cardea were looking to counter attack but finding it difficult to break out.

Despite this, it was Cardea who completed the scoring. Kieran Hart again drove into the opposition area and shot across goal and once again saw his shot parried straight into the path of a team mate. This time, substitute Dandrilli was on hand to tap in to the open goal.

FT: FC Peterborough 1-5 Cardea FC

After the game manager Matt Robinson said “I thought we were excellent first half after going down early. The build up play for the first 3 goals and the quality of the 4th was superb. I take the blame for the poor second half as I wanted to try a few things and move a few people around with the next few weeks in mind. Overall a good result and a pleasing 3 points.”

Motm was awarded to Klinkovics for his hat-trick and his work rate and leadership throughout. Well done.
