CARDEA HIT SIX AS WHAPLODE EXPLODE
By Cardea FC
Cardea continued their recent good form with a convincing 6-1 win at home against Whaplode Drove.
Cardea FC (3-4-1-2): James Wilson; Martin Holyoak, Daniel Baldwin, Michael Williams; Jake Falco, John Reddell, Aaron Yeoman, Sam Cope; Ash Baldwin; Mike Dandrilli, Thomas Klinkovics. Subs: Travis Brown, Adam Emery, Kieran Hart.
Whaplode had beaten Cardea earlier on in the season and manager Matt Robinson was keen to ensure his players avoided the mistakes that cost them last time.
Cardea opened the scoring on 11 minutes and it was Thomas Klinkovics who got it. The striker went through at an angle and forced the keeper in to a save, only for it to hit the defender and rebound in. The dubious goals committee decided the original shot (even with the keepers intervention) was going in but the majority disagree.
The game became end to end with Cardea having the best of the exchanges. Klinkovics then received one of the stupidest yellow cards in Cardea history by kicking the ball out of the keepers hands before he kicked it.
On the 41st minute, Mike Dandrilli went through 1 on 1 after an excellent through ball and finished it calmly past the keeper to make it 2-0 to Cardea.
HT: Cardea FC 2-0 Whaplode Drove
Cardea dominated after the restart and should have added a third after excellent wide play involving substitute Travis Brown. Despite the good restart it was Whaplode who got themselves on the score sheet first. Cardea failed to deal with a corner and the ball fell kindly to the Whaplode man to turn in from 6 yards.
For the second time in as many weeks, conceding did nothing but spur Cardea on and it was only a minute later before Cardea restored their 2 goal advantage. Ash Baldwin with the goal after he stole in on a cross field pass and scored with a shot the keeper should have done a lot better with.
The game became similar to a training session of attack vs defence and it was soon 4-1. Mike Dandrilli adding his second of the game after going through 1 on 1 running on to a superb through ball from Travis Brown.
It was 5-1 when Dandrilli saw a shot saved, the fall fell at the feet of Klinkovics whose shot hit the post, rebounded off the face of the opposition defender and fell kindly back to Dandrilli to tap in to an open goal. The striker won’t score from closer all season. Dandrilli still took it upon himself to abuse the linesman for trying to flag him offside, much to the amusement of everyone else.
Cardea added their 6th and the final goal of the game when Ash Baldwin delivered a perfect free kick to the back post for substitute Kieran Hart to head home.
FT: Cardea FC 6-1 Whaplode Drove
MOTM was awarded to Ash Baldwin for his excellent display in midfield. Ash pulled the strings and managed to come away with another goal too! Well done!
Next up for Cardea is an away match against city rivals Premiair, a fixture which is always a highlight of the season with the two teams travelling up the leagues together.
