Match abandoned at half time with Cardea already 9-0

The ladies had a long trip South to play Haverhill Ladies Development in the Women’s cup.

It was Haverhill that started the game stronger with a series of throw ins that saw the defence having to deal with some early pressure.

It was Cardea who took advantage as Rach found Courtney from her clearance controlled the ball well turned and found her strike partner Emma Pollard who still had work to do but finished as she always does.

5 mins into the game it was 2-0 some good work down wing for Cardea saw the ball get worked into the box which saw a shot blocked but the rebound fell to Coles who broke the net with a thunder strike.

The 3rd goal was a simple goal but showed the type of player Pollard is. Laura Ramsaran played the ball over the top but was slightly over hit, as the opposing manager shouted to the keeper you can use your hands, pollard had already nicked the ball and tapped it in after showing some good footwork to keep the ball in.

20 mins in Helen picks the ball up from Rudd in the middle and sees Courtney in space who found the back of the net in typical Courtney style, I don’t think this girl can tap a ball in. Well done and Happy birthday Courtney.

Coles turned provider for the 5th goal, in similar fashion to Pollard’s second Anna Langa beat the keeper to the ball and had all the goal to run at and smashed the ball over the line into the empty net.

4 minutes later and Coles had another assist and this time the skipper got in on the act. She had a few early sighters on goal but with this one she made no mistake as she struck and unstoppable right footed shot that looped over the keeper and in.

38th minute the Cardea attack was still hungry and still running riot, this time Helen found Rudd on the edge of the area who this time took a left footed shot and shouts from the opposition manager of great goal summed up her second goal of the game.

2 minutes later Laura Rudd has completed her hat trick. More good work in the build with Cardea showing some good football and Langa found Rudd in space who beat one player and hit a low drive into the bottom corner.

The last goal of the half was scored by Ella Harness who hit a thunderous shot into the roof of the net. Emma Pollard was beating the Haverhill defence to the ball and after mugging off 3 players so cut the ball back to Ella for a perfect team goal.

The half finished 9-0 to Cardea Ladies, the played some outstanding football and created more then the 9 goals scored, Pollard was unlucky on a few occasions with the keeper only saving her shots but the highlight was Ella’s volley from a corner, rumour has it the ball still hasn’t landed.

Paul Clarke and the girls were buzzing with the half and how they had played. There was concerns for Carlie Rudd who looked like she had hyperthermia and had to count trees to keep her entertained, she didn’t touch the ball once.

The ref had to abandon the game due to injury as the Haverhill player almost managed to get off the pitch but for some reason stopped on the edge so the game couldn’t be continued.

It’s been a bizarre cup run for the girls, 13-0 vs Cambourne, Histon couldn’t raise a side and 9-0 HT for this game, we await the decision on wether we progress into the next round.

Disappointing not to have completed the game but in 45 mins the girls showed all their hard work since we returned. Let’s hope lockdown isn’t too long. Stay safe and see you all soon.
