Cardea Reserves continued their great start to the season with a 9-1 away win at Huntingdon Rovers.

Cardea made a couple of changes from last weeks 5-2 win against Casterton with illness and injuries meaning Luke Franklin and Stuart Yaxley were replaced with Luca Spataro and Tom Rimes, who was available after the first team game was postponed earlier in the week.

And it was Rimes whose height in the opposition box opened the scoring as he headed an Ollie Goymour corner over the line.

The reserves second goal had very little to do with Cardea. The Huntingdon left back played the ball back to the keeper who, under very little pressure, completely missed the ball and it rolled into the net to double the away sides lead.

Both teams had chances to add to the scoring with Cardea keeper Kirchin saving a couple of one on ones and up the other end Dom Goymour put a lob over the keeper just wide of the post.

On the stroke of half time Ollie Goymour showed his brother how it's done as he was released by a great Rayment pass and the younger Goymour took the ball past the keeper and slotted home.

After just 28 seconds of the second half Rovers had a goal back, a great ball through the Cardea defence was well finished by the number 10.

Cardea didn't have time for any nerves to set in as defensive errors up the other end gifted them two goals in two minutes inside the first five minutes of the second half. First the Rovers goalkeeper's throw out was intercepted by Ollie Goymour who took a touch and smashed the ball back on the half volley over the keeper and into the net.

Cardea pressed straight from the kick off and were rewarded when the left back's attempted pass back was pounced on by captain Roberts who slid in and looped the ball over the keeper to make it 5-1.

In the 64th minute Dom Goymour got the goal his performance deserved as Rayment found him in the box and he bundled the ball home on the line, not sure with which part of him the ball came off!!

Cardea had chances to add to their lead, including a great effort from Roberts which dipped onto the crossbar, but had to wait until the last five minutes to add another three goals.

The introduction of Matt Smith in midfield gave Cardea a different dimension and he provided assists for two of the goals and almost scored himself. The seventh goal came as Smith played in Dom Goymour who hit the shot early to give the keeper no chance.

A couple of minutes later Dom played the ball into the area for Mike Dandrilli to squeeze the ball past the keeper and over the line to boo's from the away supporters!!

The scoring was wrapped up in the 89th minute when Smith played the ball wide to Redhead who cut inside and prodded his finish past the goalkeeper.

Another win for the reserves who sit top of the league at the very early stage having scored 14 goals in their opening two games. The Goymours sharing 8 goals between them.

After the game reserve manager Dan Chamberlain said: "We essentially picked up from where we left off last week. We started the game reasonably slow but warmed up and got the goals that we deserved.

"It was nice to see us really put them to the sword and not ease off after being a few to the good. If I'm honest I'd say the game was probably too comfortable for us and we didn't really need to get out of second gear.

"It's hard to pick a MOTM in a game like that because there were so many fantastic performances. However Mark gets it this week, intercepted well, got us moving forwards every time he got the ball. He even chipped in with two great assists. Well done Mark!!"

Next up for the reserves is a home game versus Leverington Sports A, who sit second in the league having also won their opening two matches.
