PREMIAIR STRIKE LATE TO DENY CARDEA
By Cardea FC
4 goals, 5 yellows , 1 red and a typical Premiair v Cardea match!
Cardea FC (3-4-1-2): James Wilson; Martin Holyoak, Daniel Baldwin, Michael Williams; Travis Brown, John Reddell, Aaron Yeoman, Sam Cope; Ash Baldwin; Mike Dandrilli, Thomas Klinkovics. Subs: Tom Rimes, Jake Falco, Kieran Hart.
Cardea looked to start the game brightly and tried to gain early control of the match with both Klinkovic and Dandrilli coming close to opening the scoring early on.
The first half mainly consisted of missed half chances and over hit through balls in the final third but Cardea were the first to draw blood. Klinkovics seized on a chance to drive into the Premiair box, he excellently beat his man and squared the ball across goal for Dandrilli to tap home his 8th goal in 4 games.
In the 42nd minute Cardea were forced into an early change with Yeoman having to come off with a knock to his knee. Yeoman was replaced by Kieran Hart with Ash Baldwin dropping in to centre midfield. Things got worse for Cardea on the injury front when Martin Holyoak had to come off at half time with a problem with his ankle. Cardea regular Tom Rimes came on in his stead.

The second half saw Premiair come out with a clear game plan and their pressure paid off 5 minutes in when a defensive mix up allowed for their striker through to level the scores at 1-1.
The game opened up with both teams looking to score and take the lead.
Cardea piled on the pressure and in the 59th minute were rewarded for their hard work when a Travis Brown long throw deceived everyone but Cardea's top goal scorer Klinkovics. Premiair failed to clear, Klinkovics collected the ball, turned superbly and slotted home to restore Cardea's lead.
On the 74th minute Premiair were reduced to 10 men after their left full back decided that he wanted to share with the ref exactly how much he disagreed with a decision he had made. The referee disallowing a Premiair goal that had been flagged offside by expert linesman Martin Holyoak. Holyoak then received huge amounts of abuse from the sidelines to which he gave no response.
Unfortunately though Cardea couldn't make use of the extra man as chance after chance went begging. Premiairs keeper making some good stops and the woodwork preventing Cardea extending the lead on two separate occasions. Ash Baldwin, who suddenly remembered it was possible to sprint, carved his way through the Premiair team only to see his effort denied by the crossbar.
The last 10 minutes saw Premiair pushing for a equaliser and forcing Cardea to defend deep to protect their lead. In the 92nd minute, Sam Cope decided he had no other option but to drop kick his opponent to stop him from getting through on goal! The resulting melee saw managers Matthew Robinson and Junior Jones-Eyre enter the pitch to restore control and remove an overexcited Premiair linesman. Once things had calmed down, Cope was issued a yellow card and play resumed.
Cardea managed to deal with the resulting free-kick but not the cross back into the area which saw a Premiair player react first to head home the equaliser in the 94th minute.

After the game, manager Matthew Robinson said the following “Since I’ve been at Cardea, we have always had great games against Premiair and today was no different. I'm disappointed to not hold on to the lead at the end but we will move forward and take the positives into this weekends game. I have decided to give Dan Baldwin MOTM today for excellently sweeping up at the back and controlling the defence superbly”.
Up next for the first team is a trip to Langtoft to play their reserve team.
